Carol Overpeck and other family members have been clearing the Poplin Moss Lowe Cemetery as well as recording gravestones in numerous cemeteries.  When visiting Olivet Baptist Church cemetery, they located gravestones for Thomas Jefferson Poplin, his two wives.  They also found Thomas Jefferson Poplin's home which is close to Olivet Baptist Church.

H.H. Poplin b. 1924

(Son of Nelia Poplin)

Caroline - Nelia Poplin b. 1853 Baby b. _900 - H. Paul b. 1898

Emmaline Poplin b. 1827

Clarence Poplin b. 1907

His parents were Henry Sylvanus Poplin and Flora Tennessee Sanders.  Henry most probably (95-99%sure but not fully documented) was the son of William Poplin and Eliza Bishop. William Sr. most probably was the son of Jehue Poplin and Lucy Bailiff who moved to Meigs County Tennessee.  Jehue Poplin "may" be the brother of John Alexander and Jeremiah Poplin.  He may also be the father of John D. Poplin.  If you have any documentation on these possible relationships, please email me. The information on the gravestone is  courtesy of Mark Abramson.

George Poplin b. 1906

New Salem Cemetery in Lincoln County, Oklahoma.

The 6 photographs above were taken by  Mike Poplin.   Some might say this cemetery is Meeker, OK or Jacktown, OK.  They are closer to Jacktown.  The cemetery is  located about 4 miles west of Meeker, OK and 1 mile south of the Highway (Hwy 62?).

Jesse Poplin is indeed the ancestor of many, many Stanly County Poplins, not connected to George's lines -- at least that he knows of.

His wife was Catherine Lowder, b. 1794.

Nancy Poplin Mabry is Jesse and Catherine's daughter and wife of Isaiah Mabry, who remarried, and was then killed in the Civil War.

John E. Poplin has vividly captured a piece of Albemarle, North Carolina and has posted it on his web to share with others for "viewing".  He has also begun photographically recording Poplin, Hatley and other surname gravestones.  To date he has recorded many gravestones in Poplin Grove Baptist Church Cemetery and Grandview Cemetery. I encourage you to click the Poplin Grove photo above to go directly to his site!

If you have photographs of very old "Poplin" gravestones (<1900) you would like to share, please email Linda Poplin
