• Note: Mark Abramson's Research - NC Census Data 1870: Jackson Poplin (6), lives with mother Caroline (23), sister Mary (3), grandmother, Nancy, and uncle Jerry. So Caroline is the daughter of Jeremiah Poplin and Nancy Hinson (Jeremiah, Sr. died in the mid-1860's). 1880: Caroline (32) lives with son A.J. (14) and daughter Mary (12). This means that A.J. must be A. Jackson. 1900: A.J. (b. 1865) lives in Belton, Bell, TX 1910: A.J. (b. 1865) lives in Martha, Jackson, OK 1920: Andrew J. (b. 1966) lives in Goulds, Dade, FL 1930: Andrew J. (b. 1865) lives in Fort Worth, Tarrant, TX I know 1900-1930 census are in fact the same person because of the people who live with him -- the children live with him AND he is listed in all cases to be born in NC and his parents born there as well. Thus, IF the A.J. is the same as the one shown in 1880, then his name is Andrew Jackson Poplin -- which name would make sense, since that is the name of a former US president. So we have lots of evidence but no proof. There is still Amanda Jane Poplin, born 1881, in the same family. Her death certificate says her mother's name was Catherine, but the 1900 census shows her as the daughter of Caroline -- from this same family. BTW, cemetery records show that James Poplin (b. 1883) is buried next to Amanda, and on one of the censuses, Caroline is listed as having had 5 children, 4 surviving.
• Medical: She was deaf and went to the North Carolina School for the Deaf and Dumb in Morgantown (later changed to just "North Carolina School for the Deaf" and married a deaf man, George Maner. They owned a store for many years.
